One Night in Miami...

It is February 25, 1964. Cassius Clay has just defeated Sonny Liston to become heavyweight champion of the world. No celebration is planned, since no one thought he would actually win. No one except, his three not-yet-legendary friends: activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke, and football player Jim Brown who throw a party for him in a small hotel. The next morning, Cassius would make an announcement that would shock the world. One Night In Miami... imagines what might have transpired on that very real, very fateful night in 1964. The civil rights struggle was ready to boil over and in less than a year, two of these friends would be dead. But on this night, the possibilities are endless. ROGUE MACHINE THEATRE (BEST PRODUCTION two years in a row-Ovation, LADCC Awards) launches yet another World Premiere production, opening in the second slot for SEASON 6. A collective of award-winning and prominent Los Angeles based directors, writers, designers, and actors, Rogue Machine believes theatre to be an integral part of community life, a sacred space where audiences gather to be challenged, inspired, entertained, and provoked. By nurturing and introducing new works, Rogue Machine engages this community with arts that create dialogue and resonate long after the curtain closes. ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI… opens June 8th and runs at 8pm Fridays and Saturdays, 3pm on Sundays through July 28, 2013 (no performance July 6th). ROGUE MACHINE is located at 5041 Pico Blvd., LA, CA 90019.
